Activity Guide
Antalya is Turkey's largest Mediterranean city and a treasure trove of history, culture, and natural beauty — Kaleiçi Old Town, Roman ruins, the clifftop harbour, Düden Waterfalls, and excellent museums. It's a 50-minute drive from Kemer (45 km via the D400). A rental car gives you the freedom to explore Antalya at your own pace and combine multiple attractions in one day.
Kaleiçi Old Town: the historic heart of Antalya — a maze of cobbled streets, restored Ottoman houses, boutique hotels, and Roman ruins. Key sights: Hadrian's Gate (130 AD Roman triumphal arch), Kesik Minare (Broken Minaret — Roman temple, Byzantine church, mosque), the clifftop harbour with boat trips, and countless rooftop cafés with sea views. Park at the underground car park near Hadrian's Gate (~€2/hour). Allow 3–4 hours to wander.
Waterfalls & nature: Düden Waterfalls — actually two sites. Upper Düden Falls (north of the city, a tranquil park with walk-behind-the-waterfall caves, ~€1 entry). Lower Düden Falls (Lara clifftop, a dramatic 40-metre cascade plunging directly into the Mediterranean — free, spectacular at sunset). Both are 15–20 minutes apart by car. Konyaaltı Beach — 7 km Blue Flag pebble beach with a beach park, 10 minutes from Kaleiçi. Combine all three for a perfect Antalya day.
Museums & ancient cities: Antalya Museum — one of Turkey's best archaeological museums, with an extraordinary collection of Roman statues from Perge. Perge Ancient City (25 km east of Antalya, 25 minutes) — vast Roman metropolis with stadium, colonnaded street, and baths. Termessos (35 km northwest, 45 minutes + hike) — mountain-top ancient city at 1,000m. Aspendos (50 km east, 45 minutes) — world's best-preserved Roman theatre. All are easy drives from Antalya with your rental car. A single day can cover Antalya Museum + Perge + Aspendos.
Kaleiçi Old Town (Hadrian's Gate, harbour, Ottoman streets), Düden Waterfalls (Upper and Lower), Antalya Museum, Konyaaltı Beach. If you have more time: Perge, Aspendos, and Termessos ancient cities. A car makes seeing all of these in 1–2 days feasible.
45 km, approximately 50 minutes via the D400 coastal highway. The road is excellent. City centre traffic can add 10–20 minutes during rush hours (08:00–09:30, 17:00–19:00). Park at Hadrian's Gate underground car park for Kaleiçi.
Yes — it's an easy day trip. Leave at 09:00, arrive 10:00, explore Kaleiçi until lunch, visit the museum or waterfalls in the afternoon, drive back by 18:00. With a car, you can see Antalya's highlights in one full day.
