Driving Guide
Turkish toll roads use fully electronic toll collection — no cash booths. Every vehicle has an HGS or OGS tag. This guide explains how the system works, how tolls are handled with rental cars, and whether you'll encounter tolls on your Kemer holiday routes.
Turkey's toll system: all motorways use electronic toll collection — NO cash or card booths. Vehicles pass under gantries reading an RFID tag (HGS) on the windscreen. Toll is automatically deducted. You don't stop or interact — just drive through.
Good news: NO toll roads between Antalya Airport and Kemer. The D400 is toll-free for its entire length. All nearby destinations — Kaş, Kalkan, Side, Belek — use toll-free D-roads. You only encounter tolls on motorways near Istanbul or Ankara (500+ km away).
Rental cars and tolls: all RENAX vehicles have HGS tags. If you pass a toll gantry, toll is charged to our account and passed to you at cost — no markup. Motorway tolls average ~€0.02–0.04/km. Antalya–Istanbul (~700 km) ≈ €15–20 in tolls.
No. The D400 is completely toll-free. All nearby destinations also use toll-free roads. Tolls only on motorways 500+ km away.
You don't — HGS tag handles it automatically. RENAX passes exact toll cost to you at end of rental — no markup.
Hızlı Geçiş Sistemi — Turkey's RFID electronic toll collection. Sticker on windscreen read by gantries. Every RENAX car has one.
