Driving Guide
HGS (Hızlı Geçiş Sistemi) is Turkey's primary electronic toll collection system. Every vehicle must have either an HGS sticker or OGS transponder. This guide explains HGS vs OGS, how it works with rental cars, and what tourist drivers need to know.
HGS vs OGS: HGS uses a passive RFID sticker — cheap, simple, the newer system. OGS uses a battery-powered infrared transponder — older, being phased out. Most new vehicles, including all RENAX cars, use HGS. Both work at all toll gantries.
How HGS works: the sticker is linked to the rental company's prepaid account. Toll gantry reads sticker, deducts toll (~€0.50–2.00 per gantry). At end of rental, we tally tolls and add to your bill at exact cost. You do nothing — it's fully automatic.
For Kemer visitors: you almost certainly won't use HGS. All local routes use toll-free D-roads. HGS only applies on O-roads (motorways). The nearest motorway is 500+ km from Kemer. But if you're road-tripping to Cappadocia or Istanbul, your car is ready.
No — all RENAX vehicles already have one. You don't buy, install, or configure anything. Just drive.
