Destination Guide
Göynük Canyon is one of the Antalya region's best natural attractions — a deep gorge with turquoise pools, waterfalls, and walking trails through lush pine forest. It's just 6 km from Kemer centre (10-minute drive), making it the quickest and easiest nature escape on the coast. A rental car gives you the flexibility to arrive early and beat the tour groups.
Getting there: from Kemer, take the D400 north toward Antalya. After approximately 4 km, you'll see brown signs for 'Göynük Kanyonu'. Turn right (inland) and follow the winding road for 2 km through Göynük village toward the canyon entrance. The road ends at the canyon car park. Parking: ~€1–2. Canyon entry fee: ~€3–5 per person (separate from parking). The site is open daily from 09:00 to 18:00 (extended in summer).
What to experience: (1) The canyon walk — a 2 km trail along the gorge, partly on wooden walkways built into the cliffside. You'll pass several waterfalls and natural pools. (2) Swimming — the crystal-clear pools are cold but refreshing, especially in summer. (3) The main waterfall — at the end of the walkway, a spectacular waterfall drops into a deep pool. (4) The café — near the entrance, basic but decent Turkish food and cold drinks. (5) Hiking trails — beyond the walkway, hiking paths continue deeper into the canyon for more adventurous visitors.
Driving tips: the D400 is easy, but the road through Göynük village is narrow — go slowly, especially on market days (Wednesdays). The car park is moderately sized — arrive before 10:00 in summer to guarantee a space. Bring water shoes — the canyon pools have slippery rocks. Combine with a visit to Kemer town centre (6 km back) or Beldibi (7 km north) for a full half-day. Wear a swimsuit under your clothes — the pools are irresistible.
