Destination Guide
The Düden Waterfalls are Antalya's most famous natural attraction — actually two separate falls: the Upper Düden Falls (a tranquil park with waterfalls and caves) and the Lower Düden Falls (a dramatic 40-metre cascade plunging directly off a cliff into the Mediterranean). Both are easily reached from Kemer — 50 km, about 55 minutes via the D400. A rental car lets you visit both in one trip.
Getting there — Upper Düden Falls: take the D400 north from Kemer to Antalya. Follow signs for 'Düden Şelalesi' into the city's northern district. The Upper Falls are in a municipal park (Düden Parkı) about 10 km north of the city centre. Total: 55 km, about 1 hour with city traffic. Large car park (~€1–2). Entry: ~€1–2 per person. The park has walkways that take you behind the waterfall — you can walk through a cave and emerge behind the cascading water. Getting there — Lower Düden Falls: located at the Antalya cliff edge in the Lara district, about 15 km south of the Upper Falls. Drive to Lara and follow signs for 'Düden Şelalesi' or 'Düden Park'. The viewing area is a clifftop park — the waterfall plunges directly into the Mediterranean 40 metres below. Free entry and parking.
What to experience: Upper Falls — a peaceful park setting with multiple cascades, the behind-the-waterfall cave walk (bring a rain jacket — you will get spray), and small cafés. Allow 1–1.5 hours. Lower Falls — the dramatic clifftop view of water thundering into the sea, viewing platforms, and on summer evenings, the falls are illuminated. Allow 30–45 minutes. You can also take a boat trip from Antalya Harbour to see the Lower Falls from the sea — a spectacular perspective.
Driving tips: the D400 is easy but Antalya city traffic adds time. Visit the Upper Falls first (north of the city), then the Lower Falls (south) — this avoids unnecessary city driving. Upper Falls parking: car park at the park entrance, £1–2. Lower Falls: free parking near the viewing area. Best time: Upper Falls in the morning when light creates rainbows through the spray. Lower Falls at sunset when the cliffs glow golden. Spring (April–May) has the strongest water flow. Combine with Antalya Old Town (15 minutes from Lower Falls) or Konyaaltı Beach.
Upper Falls: 55 km via D400 to north Antalya, Düden Parkı (~€1–2 entry + parking). Lower Falls: Lara clifftop (free). Visit both — they're 15 km apart. Allow 2–3 hours total.
Yes — at the Upper Falls, a walkway leads through a cave behind the cascading water. You'll get sprayed — bring a rain jacket or embrace the mist. It's a memorable experience.
They're completely different experiences. Upper = tranquil park, multiple cascades, cave walk. Lower = dramatic 40m cliff drop into the sea. Visit both — they're only 15 km apart.
