Seasonal Guide
Winter driving in Turkey splits into two completely different experiences: the Mediterranean coast (mild, rain, rare snow) and inland Turkey (heavy snow, ice, mandatory winter tyres). This guide covers both — what to expect on the Kemer coast in winter, and how to prepare if your trip includes Cappadocia, Ankara, or eastern Turkey. All RENAX vehicles are winter-ready on request.
Coastal winter driving (Kemer, Antalya): mild and manageable. December–February: highs 15–18°C, rain is the main weather (8–12 rainy days per month). Snow is extremely rare on the coast — once every 5–10 years. The D400 remains clear and safe year-round. No special equipment needed. Driving conditions are good — just wet roads at times. The main consideration: shorter daylight (sunset ~17:30 in December, plan to finish driving before dark).
Inland winter driving (Cappadocia, Ankara, Eastern Turkey): proper winter conditions. Snow, ice, and sub-zero temperatures are common November–March. Winter tyres (kış lastiği) are MANDATORY in 47 provinces from 1 December to 1 April — strictly enforced with checkpoints and fines (~€150). If you're planning a winter road trip inland from Kemer, you MUST have winter tyres. RENAX can equip vehicles with winter tyres for long-distance winter trips — request when booking, additional cost may apply.
Winter driving tips: (1) Check weather forecasts before long drives. (2) Carry snow chains if driving to Cappadocia or eastern Turkey in winter. (3) Keep a blanket, water, snacks, and a charged phone. (4) Days are short — finish driving before sunset. (5) Turkish road authorities salt and plough major highways promptly. D-roads and O-roads are prioritised. (6) If conditions are bad, wait — Turkish winter storms usually pass within 24 hours. (7) RENAX provides 24/7 WhatsApp support — if you're unsure about conditions, message us.
