Seasonal Guide
Summer driving on the Turkish Riviera is spectacular — but the heat (35–40°C), intense sun, and tourist traffic require preparation. This guide covers everything: managing heat, summer traffic patterns, parking strategies, and how to make summer driving a pleasure rather than a stress. All RENAX vehicles have powerful AC — your mobile sanctuary from the Turkish sun.
Heat management: (1) AC is essential — all RENAX vehicles have it. Set to recirculate for maximum cooling. (2) Park in shade ALWAYS. A car in direct July sun reaches 60°C+ interior in 30 minutes. Use a sunshade on the windscreen. (3) The steering wheel and seatbelt buckles can burn — cover the wheel with a towel if parked in sun. (4) Carry 2+ litres of water per person in the car. (5) NEVER leave children or pets in a parked car — even for 2 minutes. Interior temperatures become fatal within minutes. (6) Sunglasses are essential — glare off the Mediterranean is intense.
Summer traffic: the D400 is busiest 10:00–13:00 and 16:00–19:00. Saturdays are the busiest day (Turkish weekend travellers). Antalya city approaches are slow during rush hours. Strategy: drive early (06:00–09:00) or late (after 19:00). Midday (12:00–15:00) is the hottest but roads are quieter — fine with AC. Allow 20–30% extra time for journeys during peak hours. The Antalya–Kemer section of the D400 rarely has serious jams — it's a dual carriageway that flows well even in August.
Beach parking strategy: arrive before 09:30 for popular beaches (Moonlight, Phaselis). By 11:00 in July–August, beach car parks are full. Hidden beaches (Maden Bay, Boncuk Bay, Ceneviz Bay) have very limited parking — arrive before 09:00 or after 16:00. Çıralı and Adrasan have large free car parks — rarely full even in August. The car park at Phaselis fills by 10:30 — but the site is big enough that it never feels crowded once you're inside.
AC (all RENAX cars), park in shade, use sunshade, carry water, drive mornings/evenings. The car is your air-conditioned sanctuary. Never leave anyone in a parked car.
It's busy but flows — it's a dual carriageway. Busiest 10:00–13:00 and 16:00–19:00, especially Saturdays. Drive early morning or evening to avoid traffic. Antalya city approaches are slow.
Arrive before 09:30 for Moonlight and Phaselis. Çıralı and Adrasan have large free car parks that rarely fill. Hidden coves have tiny car parks — arrive very early or late afternoon.
