Seasonal Guide
Rain in Kemer is rare (most months have 0–4 rainy days), but when it comes, it's usually brief — a few hours of heavy rain, then sunshine. Having a rental car means rain doesn't trap you in your hotel. Drive to Antalya's museums, explore underground cities, or embrace the rain at a mountain tea house. Here's exactly what to do on Kemer's rare rainy days.
Indoor and rain-friendly activities: (1) Antalya Museum — one of Turkey's best archaeological museums. Massive collection of Roman statues from Perge, fascinating exhibits. 50-minute drive, large covered car park. Allow 2–3 hours. (2) St. Nicholas Church in Demre — indoor historical site, the original Santa Claus. 75-minute drive. (3) Shopping — Antalya's TerraCity Mall (50 minutes) or MarkAntalya for retail therapy. Large, covered, free parking. (4) Turkish bath (hamam) — Kemer has several. A steamy hamam experience on a rainy day is perfect. (5) Kemer Monday Market — the market has covered sections. Rain makes it less crowded and more atmospheric.
Embrace the rain outdoors: rain in Kemer is usually warm (15–25°C) and brief. (1) Göynük Canyon — the waterfall is most spectacular during/after rain. The wooden walkways are covered in places. (2) Phaselis — atmospheric in light rain, and you'll have it to yourself. The ruins look dramatic under grey skies. (3) Mountain tea houses — sit under cover, drink Turkish tea, watch rain sweep across the Taurus Mountains. Magical. (4) Drive the D400 — the coastal road in rain has a wild beauty. Waves crashing, clouds on the mountains. Different but beautiful.
Driving in rain: Turkish roads drain well — the D400 has good drainage. Reduce speed, increase following distance. Beware of: standing water (aquaplaning risk), reduced visibility, and other drivers who don't adjust their speed. Mountain roads after heavy rain: watch for loose stones and minor landslides (rare but possible). If rain is torrential, pull over at a petrol station and wait 20 minutes — Turkish downpours are intense but brief. Your RENAX car has good tyres and wipers — you're equipped for rain.
Antalya Museum (50 min drive), shopping malls, Turkish bath, St. Nicholas Church in Demre, or embrace it — Phaselis and Göynük Canyon are atmospheric in rain. Kemer has very few rainy days — this is rarely an issue.
No — June–September are virtually rainless. October–May have 4–12 rainy days per month, but rain is typically brief (1–3 hour showers) followed by sunshine. All-day rain is rare.
