Beach Guide
Kaputaş Beach is Turkey's most photographed beach — a stunning turquoise cove squeezed between towering cliffs on the D400 coastal highway between Kaş and Kalkan. The contrast of the white pebbles, electric-blue water, and golden cliffs is breathtaking. It's a 2-hour drive from Kemer (105 km) — a long but spectacular journey that's worth every kilometre.
Getting there: take the D400 west from Kemer for 105 km (2 hours) toward Kaş. Kaputaş Beach is on the D400 itself, 10 km east of Kaş (20 km west of Kalkan) — you literally can't miss it. The beach is visible from the highway — a stunning turquoise cove between two cliffs. Roadside parking along the D400 (free but limited — 30–40 spaces, fills by 11:00 in summer). From the road, descend 187 steps to the beach. The steps are well-maintained but steep — take your time.
The beach: a small but spectacular cove, about 150 metres wide. The sand is actually fine white pebbles — soft underfoot, not painful like larger pebbles. The water is what Kaputaş is famous for: an intense turquoise-blue, crystal clear, and cool (freshwater springs mix with seawater). The cove is sheltered by cliffs on both sides, creating calm swimming conditions. Waves can be moderate when the wind is from the south. The beach gets strong afternoon sun — limited natural shade. Sunbed rental available (€3–5) but limited — arrive early.
Practical tips: this is a popular Instagram spot — it WILL be crowded in summer, especially midday. Arrive before 10:00 or after 16:00 for a better experience. Bring water and snacks — a small café at beach level sells drinks and basic food, but it's expensive and limited. Water shoes helpful (pebbles). The 187 steps back up are the price of admission — take it slowly, especially in summer heat. Combine with: Kaş (10 km west, for lunch), Kalkan (20 km east), or Patara Beach (30 km). Kaputaş is a must-visit but works best as part of a Kaş/Kalkan day trip.
Drive 105 km west on D400 toward Kaş. The beach is ON the D400, 10 km east of Kaş — impossible to miss. 2 hours from Kemer. Free roadside parking (limited, arrive early). 187 steps down to the beach.
The intense turquoise colour comes from a combination of white limestone pebbles on the seabed reflecting sunlight, freshwater springs mixing with seawater, and the sheltered cove creating calm, clear water. It's genuinely that blue — no photo filter needed.
Yes — it's one of the most beautiful beaches in Turkey, possibly the Mediterranean. Combine with Kaş (10 km away) for lunch and exploring, or Kalkan (20 km). Make it a full-day road trip — the D400 drive itself is spectacular.
