Beach Guide
Blue Flag is the international eco-label for beaches that meet strict standards for water quality, safety, environmental management, and facilities. The Kemer region has several Blue Flag beaches — a guarantee of clean water, lifeguard coverage, and proper amenities. This guide lists every Blue Flag beach within driving distance of Kemer.
What Blue Flag means: a beach must meet 33 criteria across four categories — water quality (regular testing, excellent results), environmental management (waste disposal, recycling, no industrial pollution), safety (lifeguards, first aid, emergency plans), and information (beach rules displayed, water quality data public). Blue Flag is awarded annually and can be withdrawn if standards slip. Turkey has over 500 Blue Flag beaches — among the most in the world.
Blue Flag beaches in the Kemer region: (1) Moonlight Beach (Kemer) — the main Blue Flag beach, pebbly, full facilities, lifeguards. (2) Göynük Beach — family-friendly, mix of sand and pebbles, good facilities, quieter than Moonlight. (3) Beldibi Beach — long, peaceful, backed by mountains, limited facilities but Blue Flag certified for water quality. (4) Kiriş Beach — near Maxx Royal resort, well-maintained, good for families. (5) Phaselis Beach (all three bays) — Blue Flag certified despite being an archaeological site — an extraordinary combination of history and eco-standards.
Beyond Kemer — Blue Flag beaches worth the drive: (1) Konyaaltı Beach (Antalya, 50 min) — 7 km Blue Flag pebble beach with a beach park, one of Turkey's most famous urban beaches. (2) Lara Beach (Antalya, 55 min) — sandy Blue Flag beach, backed by resorts. (3) Kaputaş Beach (2 hours) — Blue Flag certified, that iconic turquoise cove. (4) Patara Beach (2.5 hours) — Blue Flag despite being a protected turtle nesting site — a model of eco-tourism. (5) İncekum Beach (near Alanya, 2 hours) — fine golden sand, shallow water, Blue Flag. A rental car makes all of these accessible.
Internationally certified beaches meeting strict standards for water quality, safety, environmental management, and facilities. The Blue Flag is your guarantee of a clean, safe, well-managed beach. Turkey has 500+ Blue Flag beaches.
Moonlight Beach (main), Göynük Beach, Beldibi Beach, Kiriş Beach, and Phaselis Beach (all three bays). All offer clean water, lifeguards (summer), and proper facilities.
If you value guaranteed water quality, lifeguard presence, and proper facilities — yes. For families with children, Blue Flag beaches offer peace of mind. But don't limit yourself — some of the best beaches (Çıralı, Adrasan) aren't Blue Flag simply because they're too wild to meet the facilities criteria.
